New Event! – Are you a “Guitar Hero”? This competition is open to all ages. Registration from 10:00 am – to 11:30 am. Prizes will be awarded. $5.00 entry fee. The location will be on the Park Stage (between the Taste Trail and the carnival). Even if you don’t play the guitar come and watch the fun!

Between the Peoria and Galena Ave. bridges. The annual Elks Fishing Derby is open to kids of all ages. Registration begins at 7am and fishing will begin at 8am. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place with an additional prize for biggest fish in each bracket. Registration and permission forms can be picked up at the Dixon Chamber of Commerce. This popular event keeps getting bigger and bigger . . . last year 21 states were represented and over 800 people participated. Major sponsors include the Telegraph and KSB Hospital. Join the run/walk over a 5K course or just come and cheer on your favorites. Course begins at the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home (8th & Hennepin). Day of race registration from 6:30 – 7:30 a.m. with race beginning at 8 a.m. Kid’s Free Fun Run prior to race at 7:30 a.m. The annual KSB Corporate Challenge is a part of the 5K and invites area companies to put together teams.

Dixon High School Cafeteria Parking Lot

Kids can try to fight just as the firefighters do! There will be firefighters helping kids control a water hose to push a ball past their competitor, who is doing the same. Kids, parents, spectators, and firemen might get wet. Fun for the whole family. Photos will be available. Located at the southwest corner of the Dixon High School cafeteria parking lot. Sign up starts at 10:30am, water fights begin at 11:00am. Admission Free

Join us for the 5th Annual Dixon Petunia Festival Rib Fest. Once again this year the competition is on to determine who makes the best ribs in the Rock River area. The event will take place in the area between the pancake tent and the Garden Stage.

Cooking begins at 12:00 and judging takes place at 4:00.

For those who want to take part in the cook off please contact the Dixon Chamber for info. Help us judge the contestant with the best spirit of the event and enjoy the sights and sounds of the best rib cooking in the area.

We are pleased to welcome back the South Shore Drill Team & Performing Arts Ensemble to our 44th Petunia Festival. They will be doing a special one hour performance @ 6:00 PM, at the Dixon Historic Theatre following the parade. It is entertainment that promises to be fun and entertaining for all age groups.

The team's unique marching style and precession has allowed them to perform all over the United States and abroad. Their repertoire includes contemporary music, jazz, hip-hop, modern dance numbers, and more.

The Petunia Festival's fantastic finale to a great holiday week! Fireworks will be launched from the south side of the Rock River near the 900 block of West First Street. Enjoy the show with synchronized music on River Country 101.7 FM. Spectator seating will be allowed on both sides of the river. Come and enjoy this spectacular show!
